Antique Chinese Wooden Document Chest / Lacquered Storage Box – Early 20th Century

Beautiful Chinese wooden document chest/storage box, believed to date to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1930. The chest has a rich dark red/burgundy lacquered finish and features an impressive ornate brass butterfly-shaped lock plate and clasp on the front.

The interior is especially interesting and retains its original paper lining covered with traditional Chinese handwritten/printed accounting and commercial records. The documents appear to contain entries relating to payments, receipts, silver/money and transactions, adding considerable historical character and authenticity.
